Designing solutions in natural and urban environments

The Civil Engineering program at Arizona State University emphasizes sustainability as an integrated approach to engineering that focuses on the long-lasting improvement of the human condition.

You can be a part of local, national and international research efforts to promote safe and sustainable development including transportation, water resources, buildings and other man-made structures.

Civil and environmental engineers work to enhance the built and natural environment in responsible and sustainable ways. As a civil and environmental engineer, you will help make improvements in:

  • environmental protection and remediation
  • water conservation and treatment
  • environmental biotechnology
  • transportation materials and planning
  • structural and geotechnical engineering

Our focus on sustainable engineering transforms the traditional design and construction methods of complex systems by the application of life cycle and environmental assessment, risk and uncertainty analysis and other emerging techniques.

Our faculty are actively engaged in research efforts that have a great impact on economic development and environmental quality. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in research that is making a difference while pursuing your degree.
